1988 National Open Champion. RHOF inductee in 1994. Toby was purchased by Fred Kampo, Oshkosh, Wisconsin, from Carl Ruffalo as a three-year-old. His sire was Carl's Retriever Hall of Fame(1994) FC AFC E-Lynn's Super Strike Lucky.
Toby was a big handsome black dog who was known by most field trialers as the dog with no tail. Toby had his tail docked as a young dog due to an injury that would not heal, but this did not impede his performance at field trials.
Fred Kampo and Charles Hays became co-owners of Toby. Toby qualified for seven National Amateurs, competing in six, and qualified for four National Opens. He competed in two which was capped off by the win in 1988 when handled by Charles. While handled by Fred, Toby was consistent running hard and straight. Proof of his consistency was that he had wins in All-Age stakes with nine different handlers in the U.S. and three in Canada.
Toby had 36 Open points with 6 Open wins, and 69.5 Amateur points with 5 Amateur wins. He had one National Open win in 1988.
Toby was a valued house pet, particularly when he resided in Wisconsin with Fred and Sue Kampo. |
